Cappuccino woke up after his operation and I was almost weak with relief to get the call.
He's surprisingly energetic now (>24 hours after op) and jumps over his food bowl for exercise as his wheel is removed till full recovery occurs. That action reminds me of counting sheep...
Naughty boy tore out his stitches after the op and had to be sedated again for stitching round 2... and now he has a big bandage around his body like a waisted-belt. I am still filled with joy to see him alive, whether or not he resembles a sausage with wrapping (:
Bought him bandage and some vegetables for nutrition... and tried to change his bandage just a while back. However the wound must be hurting some, as when I tried to see where the wrap ended, he looked like he was going to take a chomp on my finger. Not a good idea as that finger had been chomped before by his brother.
Shall wait till someone is back before I undertake the task again.

Cappu
Baby Cappuccino's lump has made a sudden turn for worse.
Fed him medicine when I reached home, and realised the fur covering his lump has disappeared, and the lump is now an ugly patchy green and brown. It has made me extremely worried that it is an abscess near bursting point... as if it should burst, the toxic pus would kill a hamster if it licked the pus off while cleaning.
Am keeping a lookout on him with his tank within sight so if anything should happen I can soak up the pus immediately. Very worried ):
The nice receptionist at Joyous Vet has managed to get a surgery slot for me tomorrow although the next available slot was on 4th September.
I can only hope and pray now that the lump will not burst, and that the surgery will be successful and Cappuccino will lead a healthy life after that.

Updates... Again
Another non-Canadian trip update.
Today I wanted to bring Cappuccino to the vet as the lump (tumor or abscess) above his hipbone had doubled in size in just a few days, and it was worrying me immensely.
After photojourn class ended (10mins late with me trying to rush out but worrying that it would be rude to cut Shyam while speaking) and I immediately ran out to the bus stop. Or tried to run.
The bus was not early, but it deposited me at JP with what I thought was sufficient time. Note: the CCK vet opened from 12-3, it was already 1330+. I brisk walked / jogged home and immediately grabbed Cappu and his cage and ran out. Tried to stuff his cage into a bag but couldn't. At that, I went downstairs, but the cabs were few and full at that. Walked to the back of JP but the queue (omg the queue) was so long though about 10 minutes back it was empty. I was so frustrated I started walking circles around JP and the mrt station and panicking (being late) and perspiring more than a water fountain (bad description) and my feet started blistering (walking too much too fast) and worst of all, poor Cappu was panicking more than me and running around his tank and burying himself in bedding and jumping up and down and trying to dig himself out of a cage (that must have felt like a greenhouse).
I started panicking and my hair was all wet (it was disgusting) and I was breaking down and so was poor Cappu. I walked to the taxi stands here and there and by roadsides and there were so FEW CABS you'd think with the price increase there would be more cabs (maybe in orchard road yes) and I was so pissed and the queue was still so long (omg now i'm ranting in circles) and there was not even a single taxi to be found at the taxi stand!
In the end I gave up. I had no choice but to, I could only drop in as the slots were full and I could not make an appointment. If I did get a cab, I would reach in time for the vet to close.
This also makes me wonder why does the vet close at 3?!?!
I went home feeling depressed and disappointed. Cappu was at his wits' end too. I felt so useless, I couldn't even bring my hamster to see a vet, couldn't even find a cab.
Cappu was so frightened when I finally brought him home, not even treats could sooth him. Finally I just left him alone, and gave him some banana when he was feeling better.
I am such a terrible hamster mummy...

Skinnybone
Now here's a title that never made sense. Skinny bone. How can a bone be skinny? But it certainly sounds better than skinnybody.
I was surfing through the Singapore Lomotion forum - on lomography, what I know as toy camera photography but am prolly wrong - when I came across a few shots from a Holga (toy camera, ha) with this extremely flesh-and-bone "model" (a word that I now know loosely describes most unprofessional females posing in lingerie for amateur photographers) posing. Now, its not that I'm against the model or the Holga (I like Holgas), but I was shocked to see a comment saying nice model with a cheeky smiley face. What has the world come to, that men actually find a woman so skinny that 2 rib bones protrude, sexy?
Men should stop dictating the ways women should look, and women should stop following the conventional ways that men want them to look, since they do want to have their own rights. Think for themselves then! Why must we be curvy in eras / countries where men like it, or skinny to the point of anorexia?
Okay, sometimes I think too much.
And now about thinking too much... perhaps I would get along very well with orangutans.
Aren't they adorable (:

Narcissist
Oh my goodness, I never knew myself for a narcissist till today.
My dvd for the musicale 2008 in which I performed a duet finally arrived.
Straightaway, I forwarded to the part where I was performing, and gleefully watched myself tinkle away on the ivory keys. It was perfection, even if I say so myself. No arm flabs were shaking (I always knew I had strong arms, they just look fat) and the Barber of Seville was played excellently without stumbling!
And do I love my dress and high heels.

Out with the Girls

Day 1, continued
After lunch, we headed to the old Chinatown (the new one being Richmond).
On the way there, the streets we walked past were lined with dilapidated buildings, many not in use. There were few walking on the streets too. It is one of the few unpleasant streets in Vancouver.
Anyway, it was bright daylight, so we hurried on.
When we reached, it was clear that Chinatown was something of the past. Shops were empty and streets were lacking visitors. Only restaurants and shops selling fresh or dried goods were still in the business.
One of Vancouver's attractions, the Sun Yat Sen park, was in Chinatown.
It was, surprisingly, filled with visitors. Crowded to the point that it was hard to take a photo without a visitor in the frame. The park did not seem interesting though, and was rather bare.
The pavilion was surrounded by a pool of lily pads... of which few were in bloom.
The entrance
The adjoining park which required an entry fee (the reason it was not bustling like the free one)
I would not recommend walking to the old Chinatown, there was nothing there worth visiting.
Sadly.

Day 1 continued.
Here's an advance apology for the ugly photo:
This is where we stayed at in Vancouver, the St. Clair Hotel, a backpackers' lodging in a heritage building a few hundred years old. Fortunately, no few hundreds years old ghosts haunting it.
St. Clair really changed my impression of lodging for backpackers, which I somehow imagined as hole-in-the-walls, dirty with rodents scurrying around and grime in a dormitory-style toilet (euuuugh!). The location was excellent - near Granville station - and thankfully it was very clean. The shower also had nice hot water with a very strong spray. The main difference from that of a real hotel was that the shower and toilet bowl was shared, and that the room was very small with bunk beds and no TV. However, the other places I read about had lots of complaints about dirt and pests, so perhaps my family was lucky.
Although my first time doing it backpackers' style was rather decent - perhaps due to my extremely low expectations - I highly doubt that I'd stay in at such a lodging again (:
Just around the corner was a small unauthentic japanese cafe and a few other cheap eats, prolly due to it being a location where students eat.
The cafe had a set that came with an appetiser, "main" and dessert or drink of your choice. I can't remember the price now, but it was affordable.
Sunomono (prawn / kani)
Sunomono is a type of "salad", vermicelli in rice vinegar with some vegetables and meat. Sounds really strange, but interestingly flavoured - imagine noodles in cold sour sauce. An acquired taste (:
Mains were basically a side of sushi served with rice. Not value for money unless you choose the right combination.
The best was probably mine, as pictured right above. It came with sashimi in spicy marinade and tuna something which I can't recall.
We all chose drinks except Mom, who had "puffs" which turned out to be icecream puffs (:
I'm sleepy so I'll continue in the next post.

Yashica MG-1
I bought this today! As a present for passing my own piano diploma (: Okay I'm lying, I just needed a reason to buy one. HAHAHAHA.
BLACK BEAUTYYYYY.............!
By the way this is not mine. I'm just too lazy to take a photo of mine :P I somehow think I got ripped off a bit, paid 100 and it had quite a few chips and scratches although the seller was very ignorant and said there were only light scratches on the base. Those I spotted must be slashes and not scratches instead.
Anyhow, gotta run a roll of slides through it just to test the meter (: A very automatic camera, so much for going manual sigh.
I guess this means I need to buy another camera. A manual rangefinder this time.
RIP Fatter.

Canada, Day 1
The view which greeted us close to landing.
No idea what mountain range that was.
Stepped out of the plane and emerged into the airport. That's the plane we took.
Vancouver International Airport wasn't what I expected, it somehow seemed very different from all other airports I've landed at. The terminal was extremely crowded, all the baggage lanes were used as far as my eye could see, and there were many police officers situated all over. The police did not look friendly, and less so when they started questioning many Chinese who were on the plane, rather than the people of other races in the terminal. What's more, they asked really irrelevant questions in aggressive manners, i.e. do you have a laptop? what do you need it for? Electronics such as laptops are so commonplace, it'd be more normal to ask questions like, do you have a bomb? Goodness.
Needless to say, I was really glad to get out of the stuffy terminal.

Just so I remember...
Some updates:
Cappu has a tumour, Billy's foot has recovered.
And I passed my piano performance diploma!
Just so I remember...
Get $$ from sis, mom (200), violin lessons!

I feel stupid. My eyes are tearing painfully from playing NeedForSpeed. With the fan blowing into my eyes at speed 2.
But its still fun! Yay!

Canada, Transit and Flight
On the way to Canada, our flight transited at Shanghai, where we spent the better of eight hours (cheaper flight = longer transit) sleeping on benches. I felt too tired to care about looking homeless. Hey, homeless people can't afford trips to Canada anyway.
After a not very restful sleep due to Chinese children (I think I'm a racist oh goodness!) shrieking and jumping on seats like monkeys, we shook our tired selves awake and started searching for food.
And guess what we found!
Ken te ji, otherwise known as ken tuc ky. We also spotted...
which reminds me of Japan (for no particular reason) so I suppose I saw it there. (: Hail the shop which sells chewing gum!
Now, say hello to our meal at ken te ji.
They have the weirdest offerings I've seen at KFCs all over the world! For example, a set does not come with whipped potato or coleslaw, it comes with a chicken wing and corn/mixed veggies in a cup! So, I ordered a burger which came with the above. And was thankful for the chicken wing cos the burger turned out to be a vegetable-flour patty (all together, UGH!). Luckily they actually ran out of the weird vegetable mix thing cos I got fries in exchange! (: yay.
Here's their menu.
And here's sis, trying to take a photo of all of us. Sometimes my camera can't flatter people's looks.
Here she is again.
Here's a shot I really like, with all the lines and everything. Which somehow managed to get my sis and dad to try and imitate it.
A strange plant seen at the airport. Must have took lots of work to make it look that way. While I was engrossed with photographing the plant, a Chinaman started examining the plant too, although he's probably seen tons of it. (:
Some shots of the Shanghai airport.
Interesting architecture, huh?
Then, finally, it was boarding time! Couldn't wait.
Took this onboard the plane... I like the composition (:
This wing with the sky reminds me of an advertisement. Fly China Eastern!
Plane started playing this movie on rollerskate disco and a cute little girl started standing up and dancing! (:
And that concludes the transit and flight to Canada.
Keep a look out for more updates to come!
